Volunteer Spotlight: Ana Deledda

For more than seven years, Ana Deledda has been giving her time, heart, and helping hands to Jewish Family Service of the Lehigh Valley as a volunteer for both the Community Food Pantry and Mazel Meals.

Ana first discovered JFS through her friend Silvia Mandler, who was already volunteering and spoke highly of her experience. Looking for a way to be more involved in the community and connect with others, Ana decided to give volunteering a try. She also knew she had something special to offer as a bilingual Spanish speaker; she could help create a welcoming experience for even more members of the community.

Seven years later, Ana is still here, and the reason is simple: the people.

Over the years, Ana has built meaningful relationships with clients, creating connections that have kept her coming back week after week. She also credits the JFS staff for making volunteering feel like being part of a family. “It is like a giant sisterhood,” she shared, adding with a laugh, “plus Doug!” To Ana, JFS became more than a place to volunteer, it became a community of people who care for one another.

If Ana had to describe her volunteer experience in one word, it would be rewarding.

“I have a bigger heart because I helped,” she said. “Volunteering here makes me feel proud.”

Ana’s dedication is a beautiful reminder that volunteering is about more than giving your time. It’s about building relationships, finding purpose, and becoming part of something bigger than yourself.

We are incredibly grateful to Ana for the kindness, compassion, and joy she brings to JFS.
