The Power of Partnership by Chelsea Karp

January is here, with shorter days that can feel heavier. At JFS, challenges are bringing about feelings of uncertainty for clients. Yet this past November when SNAP benefits were frozen, our community reminded me that we are not alone. Individual community members, along with every synagogue and community agency, showed up to make a difference. Through generous
monetary donations and nearly 3,000 pounds of food donations, partnership felt like stepping into the light. That support is the same steady presence JFS strives to be for our clients every day.

Nearly seven years ago, the Mazel Meals program was created in partnership with the Jewish Federation on Super Sunday. This December, the JFLV Women’s Philanthropy Group partnered with JFS again, ensuring every Mazel Meal delivery included a battery-operated menorah – small lights, representing connection and caring.

Partnerships bring community together. They magnify our impact and make the world feel less dark. In this moment, partnership is quite literally the light. Light that symbolizes hope.

As I look ahead to 2026, I’m filled with excitement for what we can accomplish together, and for the new partners we’ve yet to meet.
