Susan Sklaroff-Van Hook comes to this program of study and JFS with many years of experience as a legal advocate for people with disabilities. After completing her practicum and internship at JFS, Susan was welcomed into the agency as a counselor, clinical coordinator and resource specialist. Her approach to counseling is integrative and she incorporates strength-based and person-centered care with an understanding of multicultural and social systems issues that are integral to the individual experience. Susan also is informed by trauma-sensitive care and works to help clients tap into mind-body experiences that can be supportive as they seek growth.
Susan has published, individually and collaboratively, around issues of disability and ableism and has co-presented at several national conferences. As clinical coordinator and resource specialist at JFS, Susan seeks to continue to support and develop the agency’s commitment to evidence-based mental health services and to work toward the acquisition of grants to further the agency’s ability to help as many people as possible within the Lehigh Valley community.
Susan has a masters in counseling psychology, with a concentration in social justice, from Delaware Valley University.
When not at work, Susan enjoys yoga, meditation, gardening, cooking, reading and spending time with friends and family.
